Comrades!
This day dawned overcast yet again, the ground is beginning to dry out,
but is yet moist. We are anticipating much success this day as we go over to
the offensive against the Huns that are soiling our beloved motherland.
The Hun has had a limited toe hold. He holds the East edge (to hexrow 16
where it comes in in a straight line to HH then does a 3 hex jog comes in
again to DD at hex 24 goes south to hex 29 does a 45 degree slant to A32
creates a small finger if you will with the point at V35. Runs in another
jag U31 45's back to A27 goes north about row 23 cuts in a few hexes and
finally runs itself out to Q1)
The Hun fails again to take advantage of all of this room. He has
concentrated in the finger, and in the buildings in the 14-22 hexrow area
with a few units in the W-X 2-7 hexrow area)
There are some strong positions set up on 2nd level of X15 and X16 as
well as level 1 of W9.
He has used spotters for all of his mortars and set up a central spot in
2nd level of AA25.
We, Comrades, in taking the advice of several well respected party
commissars have given up all locations except for factory hexes and our
strongpoint in I6.
As we are both on the attack, the Hun has the good luck god on his side
and attacks first.
The initial onslaught of the Hun is completely ineffective!!
We have several machine gun points in each factory (I calculated
carefully to be sure of a full FP column attack for each stack) all with -1
leaders or better. each position is backed up by units ready to man the guns
should the current Comrades die as heroes of the Soviet Union.
At any rate the Hun fails to do damage. His forces move and we fire. We
break the X15 and x16 stacks. In so doing we kill 3 squads and 2 leaders.
While breaking another 4 squads.
In our first attack we kill yet another Hun leader and 1/2 squad. Our
Rocket artillery lands, but is ineffectual as it is inaccurate and so the
Hun escapes. He is surprised as we bring our Tanks onto the board and use
them to split his forces. He assaults in response to our attack and his
mortars score a critical hit on one of our positions (s30) and creates
another posthumous hero of the Soviet Union (9-2 OUCH that hurt!!) and kills
a 1/2 squad of our men.
We manage to move and advance so that we have concealed troops in the
locations will the guns we had to abandon. We look forward to our next
assault.
Appears the Hun is trying to take the entire Southern edge, I think he
stills believes he can win. I hope to cause enough casualties this turn so I
can convince him to concede.
We will hope that the balance of our Artillery forces will respond and
that our armor will cause damage to support our destruction of the Nazi
menace.
