Mmm, 12 pages of ASL goodness, now with added colour! This isn't an extravaganza, it's just little coloured illos here and there, and some nice shading in the scenarios. Very tasteful. Three scenarios: "Backhand Blow", Russia 1943. A meaty combined-arms slugfest with the Germans looking to chew gum and kick arse (and they're all out of gum). Looks fun. "Hill 731", Albania 1941, Greeks vs. Italians. Look out! The Italians are on the attack! Looks like a good possibility for a tournament scenario size-wise, although the Italians only barely outnumber the Greeks, who are sitting in good defensive terrain, which all looks a bit ominous. "Ghosts and Thunderbirds", France '44, a mostly-elite German counterattack on some Americans who are supposedly "war-weary" but who are well supplied with elite units, a very high ELR, terrific leadership and a hero, so it doesn't seem to me that they're all *that* tired. Even the cooks and bottle-washers are led by a 9-2. Oh look, the Germans have Panthers, what a surprise. I'm sure it's a fun and interesting scenario but the OOB on both sides looks more like a teenager's DYO effort than a late-summer of '44 clash between two experienced but exhausted armies. But maybe I'm just a cynic. The usual design and analysis articles and some helpful info for newer players round out the issue. I look forward to reading it. If you're not already a subscriber you should seek mental help, ASL fun doesn't come much more cheaply or more reliably than a DftB subscription. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Bruce Probst bprobst@netspace.net.au Melbourne, Australia MSTie #72759 "I sure hope he said 'peanuts'."
