Authie: The Death of Company C - Critical Hit 1
I won as the Canadians in Authie. Here's some of what I did:

  1. Moved the Bren Carrier to 17O1, so it would give me continuos +1 protection for my guys hunkered behind the bocage in 17O1, 17O2, 17O3 and 17O4. Of course, abandon the Bren and put the extra LMG with the 9-2.
  2. Placed the 1S foxes in 17Q6 and 17T4. Had a half-squad digging a fox in 17Q7 until it finally dug it. 17Q6 and 17Q7 were really important because it allows MMCs to assault move into the foxes during movement to keep from being fired upon in the Germans Defensive Fire. After the half digs one in Q7 move it to S7 and try and dig one there if time allows.
  3. I moved the Firefly to 17H7 and a 4-5-8 w/LMG (and later another MMC if threatened) to 17I7 on the first turn. This keeps the Germans from entering on 17A6 and denies them the building in 17I8. This will usually force the Germans to come in on the other side of the woods at 17A2, 17A1, etc. If so, I move the 4-5-8 w/LMG to 17K7 where it can place a firelane down hexrow K at the appropriate time. The Firefly is the key to the scenario for the Canadians. If it manages to stay around until the end the Germans will have a hard time winning. That's why I would keep it within the protective circle of wall/bocage around the building in 17I8 so it can cover buildings I8, P9 and O6.
  4. Most of my defense with the 9-2 is concentrated behind both lines of bocage for the protection and the skulking ability.
  5. A smaller group is sent to my right flank to deal with the reinforcements on turn 3. They carry the French weapons since they have lower break-down numbers and I want to keep from firing them until turn 4 or 5. Just the threat is enough to keep the German cautious. Now I have three levels of defense. My first line is the bocage. Second line is the buildings P4, S4, U5. My final line is the foxes and buildings P9, R5 and S6.
  6. Finally, I like a HIP half-squad in the Z3 woods to force the Germans to search. Popping one up out of AA6 and taking back Z7, DD6 or CC3 can really give the Krauts fits.
