Another Baclava - Rout Pack 5
Having got through KILLEAN'S RED in a couple hours, I popped up Romanowski's scenario DB that I modified by adding a TIME field. I set up a quick query to find a scen with the elements I wanted: desert, short, some AFVs on both sides. BINGO! RP5, ANOTHER BALACLAVA.

I'd played this once before against Robert Oler. Robert had the Brits and lost due to misreading my set up area properly. I knew he was misreading it, but I didn't tell him as it would have made him aware of a section that had only one scrub hex (the only concealment terrain on the board) that I happened to have placed both my Italian ATGs in. So he ended up giving me a couple of rear shots and yadda yadda yadda, I won.

Against Burnsie, I got the German/Italian force again, but was careful to make John aware of the setup area before I set up.

I setup a lot like I did the first time, with my 47 and 50L ATGs far forward in the scrub, with two guns to a hex on one side as a hopeful surprise. As the burden of VC is on the Brits, he has to find the guns and then rack up DVP.

John's attack was very good. He probed the scrub with tanks, forcing me to roll to keep HIP or pop up right away and deal with him. He then swarmed the gun positions as he found them. His only mistake was to drive into a scrub hex a couple of times without enough MP left to OVR if he found something. This tips the balance way in the defenders favour. As my 50s and 47s have a pretty tough time against his front armour, being in-hex suddenly gives me a chance at his side or rear AF. To Hit is worse, but if I hit, I have a good chance to kill. Of course, the first time he made this mistake I ended up with a burning Grant on top of one of my 50L ATGs.

I had some pretty good luck in this scen and polished Burnsie off early. We quit after a few turns in favour of squeaking in one more scenario.

But the scen does bring up the question for the Brits, is it better to move in for the OVR and risk exposing you rear and side, or is it better to stay out of the hex and try to finish them off with MGs and HE?
